We recently visited Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park.
But there weren't any good collection. it was more of a park with huge canopy of trees. They have routine collection of snakes, tortoise and crocodiles. We didn't have the opportunity to see bear, i think it might be sleeping :). Monkeys were there, but they were ordinary. The deer's collection was good. They are in good number and i think they have got habituated to the onlookers. We had a good view on deer's. Then there was wolf according to the display, but i don't think it's a wolf, it must be fox. Reading picture books along with Praneeth has taught something..
Only tiger and elephant were balance. We thought of visiting the elephant first so that kids will enjoy seeing the jumbo..but
it turned out to be a big disappointment.
The elephant was sheltered in a shed at the end of the zoo premises, one can't even have a good look at it..the shed was dark and shabby.
That was disaster...only the walk was worth. Even the long route to the elephant area has nothing to keep visitors engaged.
While returning back we visited the tiger. The white tiger was pathetic, the ones we see in Geographic channel looks like 'wow' and here its 'Oh'. They should have a pair of them so that they could have some company. The normal tiger was a bit better. It was sitting majestically near the wall and was visible. It had a 'I don't care look'. We were sitting in the park near to tiger zone, after some time the tiger had a short walk and gave good pose for the people who want to capture the moment than to enjoy it. Then it went away.
The leopards were in pair, happy for them. But they were in a irritable mood. I think that was their feed time and they haven't received yet...
We kept walking. I was expecting to find an enclosure for birds at least a small one, but we already reached the exit. The only birds they have are a vulture which stood like a rock, 4 owls sleeping and peacocks...
If you already have experience zoo before this will be a disappointment. You can just spent the evening in nature.
It has some plus points to boast like, good green cover and good pathways. They created rest areas and shelters at regular intervals. One of the good initiation they have taken is to avoid plastic inside zoo. Near the security check itself they takeover any plastic you are carrying. If you plan to take any eatables take them in boxes or paper covers. I was impressed by this.
Overall it was a good evening.
